Migrate from another swatch app

If you already link products in another swatch app, you don't need to build your groups again. Export them to a CSV file from the other app and upload that file to FD Combined Listings. The app reads the file's columns, works out which app it came from, and creates your groups.

Supported files

FD Combined Listings recognizes these exports by their column names. Upload the file as it is. Don't rename or remove columns.

Export fromColumns the file must haveProducts matched by

The combined listings format can bring in groups with more than one option. The other formats create single-option groups.

Any other file is read as an FD Combined Listings CSV, described further down this page.

Import the file

  1. Open Product Groups and click Bulk create.
  2. Under Choose detection method, pick CSV import and click Next.
  3. In the Import product groups window, drop your file in Add file, or click Upload file. Only .csv files are accepted.
  4. Click Import product groups.

When it works, you see how many groups and products were imported.

What gets carried over

  • Groups: each group keeps its name, option name and option values.
  • Swatches: colors, two-color swatches and swatch images carry over. Rows with no swatch use the product image.
  • Swatch images: images hosted outside Shopify are copied to your Shopify Files.
  • Style: the app uses one of your existing styles of the same kind, such as dropdown, button or swatch. If you have none, it uses a swatch style.

You can change any of this after the import. See Swatch styles.

If the import fails

The import is all or nothing. If any row has a problem, nothing is imported and the window shows Nothing was imported — fix these rows and upload again, with the row and the problem. Click Download errors as CSV to get the full list.

Every handle or product ID in the file must match a product in this store. The error list names each one that doesn't. If you exported from a different store, or deleted products since, remove those rows and upload again.

Use the FD Combined Listings CSV format

If your app isn't listed, you can build the file yourself. In the Import product groups window, click Download sample CSV for a template.

The file has one row per group, followed by one row per product:

  • Group row: a groupId you choose, such as group-1, the group name, status (ACTIVE or DRAFT), and option1Name, such as Color. Leave shopifyProductIdOrHandle empty.
  • Product rows: the same groupId, the product's Shopify ID or handle in shopifyProductIdOrHandle, and its value in option1Value. Optional columns set swatch colors and images.

For a group with two options, fill option2Name on the group row and option2Value on each product row. Subcategory groups can't be imported from a CSV.

If a group with the same name and option names already exists, the import updates it instead of creating a second one.

After the import

Add the FD Product Groups block to your theme so the groups show on your store. See Getting started. Then check a few product pages before you remove the old app.
